Trusts & Asset Protection

A trust is one of the most powerful tools in estate planning. Put simply, it lets you protect assets, most often your home, for the people you care about, while keeping control over what happens to them. Used well, a trust can shield your family home, provide for a vulnerable relative, and help your estate pass on more smoothly. We'll explain, in plain English, whether a trust is right for you, and we'll never recommend one you don't need.

What a trust can do

  • Protect your share of the family home if your partner later remarries, so it still passes to your children.
  • Help protect assets against being wholly assessed for care fees (subject to the rules on deliberate deprivation, which we'll always explain honestly).
  • Provide for a disabled or vulnerable beneficiary without affecting their means-tested benefits.
  • Keep assets in the bloodline, protected from beneficiaries' divorces or creditors.
  • Speed up and add privacy to how your estate passes on.

Types of trust we offer

We can also register trusts with HMRC's Trust Registration Service and provide ongoing trust administration.

Honest, careful advice

Trusts are frequently mis-sold, and they aren't right for everyone. Some arrangements, particularly those marketed purely to avoid care fees, can be challenged or can cause more problems than they solve. We give you straight, realistic advice about what a trust can and can't do, so you can make a properly informed decision.

How it works

We start with a free consultation to understand your assets and your goals, explain your options clearly, and, only if a trust genuinely suits you, set it up with a fixed fee agreed in advance. In person across Yorkshire, or online throughout England & Wales.
